Tankhouse

After a long (too long) hiatus, Mill Street Tankhouse is back!!! Five different malts and good ol' cascade hops come together to create a balance of caramel and hops in this coppery-red beauty.

Glad your back old friend.
A literal interpretation.

8° Separation: Maredsous and Six Acres

Maredsous 8° Bruin was blended by Father Attout in Belgium.

Belgium is home to the world's deepest swimming pool - Nemo 33.

Thirty-three Chilean miners were trapped for over two months in a 500 square foot space.

The foot was first standardized around 2575 B.C. by the Sumerians.

Sumerians are famed for building ziggurats, but are also credited with inventing the arch.

The arch-nemesis of Superman is Lex Luthor.

Luther Vandross' debut album "Never Too Much" contains a cover of Burt Bacharach's "A House Is Not a Home".

Six Acres is not a home, but it sure feels that way now that we have Maredsous 8° Bruin.

5 YEARS!

Number-Five-Painting

On Wednesday, January 5th our beloved Acres turns 5. Five!? Van damn, how time has flown! To celebrate the occasion, we are pairing an ice cold bottle of Czechvar with a heaping bowl of our delectable garlic butter & romano cheese popcorn for a fiver. Yup, $5. All you have to do is say "Happy Birthday Six Acres!" Sincerity is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you!

Matters of Seasonal Importance

Once again the time arrives when we return to the pastures of our birth. Six Acres will be closed Friday December 24th and Saturday December 25th. We shall, however, return to our posts for Monday December 27th as we eagerly anticipate the coming of the next decade.

And happily announced: on the eve of the new decade, this December 31st, 2010, our Acreage will be open, as always, for guests to come and enjoy drinks, foods, and merriment!!

new year's eve

Finally, if our paths fail to cross between now and then, happy holidays to you and yours with all the best for the coming year.

sincerely,

We know you are out there…

You might recall, some time back, that Six Acres used to be the proud owner of a prize winning horse named Chimay... We have looked high and low hoping to again catch a fleeting glimpse of her shining white coat, but without luck. Our hopes have, however, been floated this week with the arrival of Chimay Grand Reserve. Could this be the sign we have been awaiting? A signal of Chimay's return?

Until then, we continue a vigilant and untiring watch...

Bring Back The Clepsydra!

Clepsydra-Diagram-Fancy

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is a drag. Sure, we all embrace that glorious extra hour of sunlight in the summer, fully aware of the repercussions of a better tan & bonus patio time. None the less, it always comes as shock to see the the "sun" retreating behind the hills at 4:15. So, what's the deal? After a brief dig-about, it became evident that modern DST is rather selfish in its origins. One of DST's pioneering minds collected insects in his spare time, and wanted more daylight after work to better enable his hunt. Another guy was an avid golfer, and disliked cutting short his round at dusk. Fair enough, but why so inflexible? Surely we can devise a system that accounts for maximum exposure whilst reducing the winter doldrums. Perhaps we should bring back the clepsydra? Why not pay a guy to stand atop a floating platform with a harpoon pointer while a series of gears rotate a cylinder that ensures hour lengths are consistent with the current date? Sounds incredible! Until then, allow me to remind you how nice it is to be soaked in candle glow, sipping, munching, while watching a myriad of reflected colours & shapes parade upon the damp cobblestones. Not so bad...
